#LockdownClimateChange: Change the menu to reduce emissions
27 April 2020
Professor Simon Mortimer, Head of the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, said:
“Food production contributes 10% of UK and around a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions. We know that to prevent the worst effects of climate change, we need to shift our diet towards food that can be grown more sustainably.
“The restrictions on shopping, limited availability of some food products, and closure of restaurants and pubs have forced us to make changes at mealtimes. If this shift shows that we can change what we eat, perhaps we should consider tweaking our meals permanently, to help save lives in years ahead.”
