Student Services Staff Shadowing Scheme launches
Monday, 01 April 2019
The Student Services Staff Shadowing Scheme (SSSSS) opened on 1 April and provides a unique opportunity for staff within the service to shadow job roles in other Student Services departments, providing both an understanding of different work areas as well as personal and professional development.
The scheme is open to all Student Services staff at all grades and levels, allowing the potential for cross-departmental opportunities and wider organisational experiences and knowledge building. In due course we hope that the scheme will branch out to include opportunities outside Student Services.
Paddy Woodman, Director of Student Services, who recently undertook shadowing experiences across all teams in the service, believes the scheme will strengthen understanding, communication and collaboration, develop staff and increase knowledge across the teams:
“Shadowing allows you to put yourself in the shoes of colleagues in other teams and gives you a whole new perspective on what you do and how it fits into the broader picture. Just a few hours gaining this insight is time well worth spending particularly if you want to develop your career or see how your whole team can work more productively. It has also helped me get to know more people which I find hugely rewarding.”
Work shadowing is flexible and once set up, shadow and host can agree what to cover and how long the experience should last.
