Online courses to support successful learning in schools
Monday, 15 April 2019
Two new online courses developed by the University are launching on the Future Learn platform on 22 April 2019.
Supporting Successful Learning in Primary School and Supporting Successful Learning in Secondary School have been designed by Professor Helen Bilton at the Institute of Education. They are aimed at teaching assistants in primary and secondary schools, but current teachers, teachers returning to work and newly qualified teachers may also find it useful.
University colleagues who are parents may also find the courses useful in supporting and encouraging their children’s learning.
The courses are free to do and require up to three hours of study each week, for four weeks. You can sign up at Supporting Successful Learning in Primary School and Supporting Successful Learning in Secondary School.
Professor Helen Bilton brings 35 years of experience in teacher training and education and worked on this course with the University's Online Courses team.
On the primary school course, you will hear from education experts, school staff and school children who provide insight into how children learn, the learning environment, and communicating in school. You will also explore some of the theories underlying people’s behaviour that could impact learning in school.
The secondary school course will cover how to support effective learning experiences in secondary schools, exploring the different ways secondary school students learn. You will also reflect on your own values and biases to improve your confidence and working practice.
You can watch video trailers for both courses on the Supporting Successful Learning in Schools webpage.
