Thank you from the VC for those involved in confirmation and clearing
Tuesday, 20 August 2019
Confirmation and clearing is one of the biggest events in the higher education calendar, and a huge amount of effort has gone into ensuring the University of Reading was ready to respond quickly to those hopeful prospective students seeking their university place.
So I would like to extend huge thanks, on behalf of the whole University Executive Board team, to the many colleagues from around the University who threw themselves into this critical activity with enthusiasm, professionalism and good-humour. Whether it was managing confirmations, setting up and staffing the call centre, processing online applications, updating the website, crunching the data, supporting the IT infrastructure, hosting guests for the Friday Visit Day or one of the many other roles – you’ve done an amazing job and I am hugely grateful.
Our newly refurbished Library was a fantastic venue for our Clearing, Adjustment and Confirmation hotline this year, hosting a team of around 150 people. On A-levels day alone, Thursday 15 August, the team made more than 1,200 offers – more in a single day than we have ever made previously. With an average waiting time on calls of only a minute, and many callers commenting on how friendly and helpful our team were, you have been superb ambassadors of our university.
There will be lots of follow-up activity for some days to come, so we don’t yet have final numbers, but initial indications are positive and I look forward to sharing the outcomes with you soon.
Kind regards,
Robert
