Success for University rowers

The Reading University Boat Club (RUBC) recently took part in the fours Head of the River event in London. We had incredible success with both the women’s and men’s crews winning their class, and crews coming second and fourth in both classes too.
Our women's crew finished third overall (beating the Swiss national crew in the process!), while the men's team finished fourth overall. There were over four hundred entries in the race.
The Fours Head of the River event is raced along a 6.8km course on the Thames from Mortlake to Putney. It is open to crews of quad sculls, coxed and coxless fours for women and men in club, academic and school/junior classes. With academic crews being composed only of current, full time students. Though an amateur event, there is a minimum entry requirement for all crews.
Director of Rowing, Will Rand, said: “I’m especially proud of our rower’s success at this event. In the two weeks leading up to the event, the weather prevented us getting onto the river so all of our training was indoors. None the less, the crews all worked hard and kept there spirits up. This was shown in the fantastic racing and results on the day.”
