Open in Practice 2019: Opportunities and Challenges is a multidisciplinary conference on the theme of Open Research for University academics, research students, research managers and support staff being held on Thursday 4 April. To book a place visit the conference web page.

Topics to be discussed include: how universities can support Open Research; University Open Research initiatives; scientific publication and peer review for the 21st century; increasing access to research in the Humanities; and future directions for Open Research.

The programme will feature:

  • keynotes from Dr Danny Kingsley, Deputy Director, Scholarly Communication & Research Services, Cambridge University Library; and Professor Stephen Curry, Professor of Structural Biology, Imperial College London (and Guardian columnist);
  • presentations from University academics who are implementing open practices in their work;
  • lightning talks from entrants in the University’s inaugural Open Research Award competition;
  • discussion on an Open Research plan for the University, led by Parveen Yaqoob, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation).

The University’s Open Research Award is accepting applications from staff and PhD students until 1st March. Application is by means of a short case study describing how open practices have been used in a research context. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to talk about their work at Open in Practice, and will have their case studies published by the University. There will be a £500 prize for the winning entry.

If you have any enquiries, please contact Robert Darby, Research Data Manager (extension 6161).
