Library set for next stage of refurbishment
Thursday, 03 January 2019
The next stage of the Library refurbishment begins this month with the demolition of the existing central staircase. This will create space for print hubs on every floor and a silent study PC area on the fifth floor.
This phase of construction will sometimes involve noisy or disruptive works. Before Christmas, we put in place acoustic partitions and other noise-management measures. You may, however, experience noise and disruption while the demolition work is carried out.
You can use the quiet and silent study spaces in the Library@URS building, as well as a variety of alternative study space options across campus. A full guide on the availability of study space across the campus can be seen here: Study space update.
Access to the refurbished upper floors will be maintained throughout this phase of the refurbishment. Although the stairs behind the existing lifts are out of use, access will be maintained to two of the lifts. The staircase leading up from the entrance hall will remain the main stairs, with other stairs around the edges of the building available for emergency evacuation.
The refurbishment forms part of the University's ambitious 2026: Transform capital investment programme, which focuses on improving campus facilities and supporting the student experience.
