Celebrating Staff Success in Achieving HEA Fellowship through the FLAIR Framework
Tuesday, 22 January 2019
On December 5 2018, the University held an event to celebrate staff success in attaining HEA Fellowship through the FLAIR Framework. The Framework itself is accredited through Advance HE, and HEA Fellowship is important recognition of an individual’s work in teaching and learning, offering an internationally accepted ‘badge of quality’.
It was a great opportunity to acknowledge the impressive achievements of colleagues in relation to teaching and learning – which span all categories of Fellowship – reached either through the taught Academic Practice Programme, or the CPD Scheme.
In addition, it was also a chance to celebrate those who went on to complete an optional module to gain a stand-alone qualification and award of the University: the PGCAP (Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice). This component enables participants to further build their portfolios of professional development activity, by exploring a specific area of academic practice through a small-scale research project.
As well as helping to ensure that staff successes are celebrated across all parts of the University, the event was a welcome occasion for colleagues to catch-up and connect with one other again. It also constituted an opportunity to say an important ‘thank you’ to all those who contribute to the scheme and help to make it happen. This includes colleagues within CQSD, but also, of course, many colleagues from across the institution who provide support as mentors and reviewers.
The extent of staff involvement is evidence of Reading’s real commitment to its quality of teaching and learning. Gavin Brooks, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, offered his sincere thanks and congratulations to all who had participated in FLAIR and achieved recognition of their work in the form of HEA Fellowships through both the APP and CPD route.
