Athena SWAN: join focus groups on Family Leave

Monday, 01 July 2019

Athena SWAN

The University’s Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team (SAT) is inviting colleagues to join our focus groups on Family Leave.

Your input will help us understand how the Family Leave arrangements are working currently and what more could be done on this.

To join a focus group, email Karen Henderson (k.henderson@reading.ac.uk) who is leading the SAT’s work on Family Leave. We will respond as quickly we can with a date and location for the focus groups.

The University currently holds a Athena SWAN  Bronze accreditation and your support will help us retain and improve on this. Our submission is due at the end of November and we are keen to hear from as many colleagues as possible.

The focus groups we have run so far on other issues have provided extremely valuable insight and information. We appreciate the time colleagues are giving to our submission and are confident that this will help us shape a plan that builds on the feedback.

The Family Leave focus groups will help us explore the experiences of maternity, childbirth/adoption and shared parental leave. We would like to explore your experience of taking this leave, and returning to work following that leave, in more detail. We are also interested in experiences associated with leave for care of dependents and relatives.

Feedback from the focus groups is completely confidential and will only be used to develop our action plans. The information gained will be held confidentially and used to help us develop our action plans.
