#MadeAtReading: Wellbeing on campus
Tuesday, 09 July 2019
All this week we will be exploring the key themes in mental wellbeing, and how colleagues might apply them here on campus.
Being active is a key part of mental and physical wellbeing and we’re very fortunate to have a fully equipped gym located on campus. There’s no better time to join with the reduced membership for all colleagues. If you don’t know where to start, there’s also a free personal programme which allows for the discussion of exercise goals with a Fitness Consultant. The consultant will then create an exercise program and instruct you through it. This appointment lasts about one hour and can be booked online at reception or via a Fitness Consultant in the Gym. There are other clubs on campus that you can join to help keep active.
The University offers an Employee Assistance Programme which is a fantastic resource to help enhance our physical and mental wellbeing with a portal all colleague can access. This service gives you somewhere to turn for support any time of day or night, 365 days a year. Support is available for whatever issues you might be facing, including work stress, depression, marriage and relationship issues, legal concerns, coping with change, parenting issues, financial problems, health issues and much more. You can find out more about the Employee Assistance Programme here (login required).
Additionally the University has an in-house Occupational Health team which works in partnership with colleagues and their managers to resolve issues in the workplace that have an adverse effect on health. Occupational Health is about assessing the impact of work on health and vice versa and the team gives advice to managers about workplace adjustments that are recommended. The Occupational Health team is also interested in wellbeing and they contribute to initiatives across campus.
We would also like you to join in on Wednesday 10 July by sharing your photos and reflections on wellbeing with the University’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. Use the hashtags #WellbeingWednesday and #MadeAtReading.
