#MadeAtReading: making connections
Thursday, 11 July 2019
All this week we will be exploring the key themes in mental wellbeing, and how colleagues might apply them here on campus.
Whether done casually or as part of a formal network making connecting with the people around you such as family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues can enrich and support you. There are many places, both indoor and out, to meet up for a chat and don’t underestimate this: feeling well supported is beneficial. There are a number of staff networks on site that you may wish to contact or be part of:
The Staff Disability Network is an inclusive support network for all staff with a range of disabilities, impairments and/or mental health conditions, as well as non-disabled staff with an interest in disability issues. You find out more about the network here.
The LGBT Plus network is an inclusive staff support network for individuals identifying as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, as well as other sexual and gender identities, and their allies. LGBT Plus has a social and representative function and you can find out more here.
The Women@Reading staff network champions issues of gender equality across the University and is co-ordinated by a small committee that provides direction, builds awareness, organises events and communicates with University leadership. You can find out more here.
In addition to these are the newly formed Parent and Family Network and Cultural Diversity Group, more information on these will follow on the Staff Portal.
Colleagues can also join the Staff Forum which recently met colleagues at Greenlands campus and shared their thoughts about connecting with the wider University community. In September, there will be another opportunity to connect with colleagues at a ‘Get Together’ event. In addition to hearing (and seeing) some amazing people, the event will highlight a range of physical and mental wellbeing activities you can get involved in. September’s ‘Get Together’ will again be held at Whiteknights but having received multiple requests, we are pleased to announce that future events will be held at other University campuses.
We would also like you to join in by sharing your photos and reflections on wellbeing with the University’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. Use the hashtags #WellbeingWednesday and #MadeAtReading
