Vice-Chancellor's June 2019 report to Senate
Friday, 28 June 2019
Updates on the University strategy, Augar review, University of Reading Malaysia and our league table performance were among the topics covered in the Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort’s report to the University Senate this month.
Robert said stakeholders had engaged well with the consultation on the new University strategy. “More than five hundred colleagues submitted their individual response and following open meetings in Schools and Functions, we have had 39 School/Function-level responses so far. Our students have had the opportunity to take part through an online survey and through focus groups…..We have also actively engaged with external stakeholders, including our alumni in a variety of ways and have had 77 responses to date.”
On the Augar review, he said: “It is very uncertain as to if and how the report’s recommendations will be implemented. My view is that it is unlikely that the proposals will be implemented as a single package, as proposed by the members of the Review, but it is likely that some of the proposals will be implemented. Universities UK has estimated that the tuition fee cut would cost the sector £1.8 billion unless made up in full by central government funding”.
