Health and Life Sciences building update

Work continues to progress on the new Health and Life Sciences building with the significant milestone of the exterior envelop of the building being completed. This was marked by the recent Topping Out ceremony attended by the Vice-Chancellor.
Though the outside view is not changing there is much going on inside the building, now it’s watertight. This includes the erection of dry walls, plastering and the installation of electrical and other services. As this progress continues updates will be posted here as well as views from students and colleagues who will be based in the building when it’s finished.
In this update we hear from the Project Lead for Balfour Beatty, Jeff Carter, on the complexity of the construction and how having a live project on the campus has benefited our students.
With the completion of the main structure, exterior cladding will begin to be fitted to the building with construction scheduled to be completed in late 2019. The project demonstrates the University commitment to 2026: TRANSFORM capital investment programme, with £60m being invested to bring about closer integration of the school.
