Health and Life Sciences building update

Work on our new Health and Life Sciences building is progressing well. Colleagues who have passed by the site will have noticed the main structure complete and windows and exterior cladding is being installed. Less obvious progress has also been made, for example the completion of the nearly 1,000 square metres of roof covering the top floor. This allows for the heating and cooling system to be brought on site and begin the fitting of this.
If you’d like a closer look, it is possible to visit the site on Tuesday 19 March 2019 through the Open Doors scheme. There sessions are 10:00-11:30 and 13:00-14:30 and you can register to attend here.
Once the exterior of the building is complete progress will be less visible so there will be a monthly update from inside the new building. This will include a short film highlighting a specific aspect of the work in the School of Biological Sciences. This month you can see Prof Amanda Callaghan, curator of the Cole Museum, on site talking about the museum’s new home.
With the completion of the main structure, exterior cladding will begin to be fitted to the building with construction scheduled to be completed in late 2019. The project demonstrates the University commitment to 2026: TRANSFORM capital investment programme, with £60m being invested to bring about closer integration of the school.
