Vice-Chancellor's address to Senate

The University strategy, voluntary redundancy, community relations and the community forum were among the topics covered in the Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort’s address to the University Senate on 6 March 2019.
He said, “The Council has asked me, as a key priority, to progress and conclude the new University strategy at the earliest opportunity. It also asked me to be radical in the way the University positions itself in an increasingly challenging environment.”.
Robert said the “One of the key principles on which we all agree, is to focus more strongly on the quality of our teaching and learning and research. Quality means ensuring we provide an excellent academic and wider student experience by listening to the feedback students have provided and acting on it, by being innovative in the way we work, and how we prepare our students for the world of work.”

Senate is the University’s main academic administrative body. Reporting to the Council and meeting at least four times a year, the Senate advises on areas such as student entry, assessment and awards.
With around 100 members, the Senate comprises Deans, Heads and elected representatives of Schools, as well as professional staff and students. University Boards responsible for developments and innovation in research, teaching and learning report to the Senate.
