Open Research Award shortlist announced and Open in Practice conference

We are delighted to announce the shortlist for the University’s inaugural Open Research Award. To see the shortlisted entries and choose a winner, book your place now for the Open in Practice conference on Thursday 4 April.
The competition invited researchers to submit a short case study explaining how they have used open practices in a research context. From an impressive 17 entries, four were shortlisted:
- TAMSAT-ALERT (The TAMSAT* – AgricuLtural Early waRning sysTem) (Emily Black, Ross Maidment)
- Open and Online Experimental Philosophy (Kathryn Francis, Nat Hansen, Philip Beaman)
- Researching Solar Storms with Citizen Scientists; Engaging with Four Thousand Volunteer Research Assistants (Shannon Jones, Chris Scott, Luke Barnard)
- Annotating for Transparent Inquiry in Qualitative Foreign Policy Decision-Making Research: Making Archival Documents Accessible (Joseph O’Mahoney)
Following presentations at Open in Practice, the winning entry will be chosen by live audience vote. The winner will receive a £500 prize, and shortlisted case studies will be published on the University’s Open Research web pages.
Chair of the judging panel Parveen Yaqoob (PVC Research and Innovation) said: ‘We had applications from across campus, and our shortlist includes PhD students and professors, which goes to show that Open Research is relevant to all researchers. We have a really strong shortlist and I’m greatly looking forward to seeing the presentations at Open in Practice.’
