Wolfenden Lecture: Our Trans Lives
Monday, 13 May 2019
Join us at the University of Readings Flagship LGBT+ event with Jake & Hannah Graf - Our Trans Lives: life, love and Lorraine.
In 2013 Hannah came out as a transgender woman and became the highest ranking transgender soldier within the British Army. Jake Graf transitioned in 2008, and after a lifetime of searching for positive representations of trans people onscreen, Jake wrote, directed and starred in his first film ‘XWHY’.
They are virtually inseparable: both patrons of the Mermaids charity, Hannah frequently working on Jake’s films and media requests for them as a couple now commonplace. The pair were listed at joint number 10 on this year’s Guardian Pride Power List and have become something of an inspiration to the international transgender community, seizing every opportunity to increase acceptance and understanding of the transgender experience.
Please join us on 16 May at 19:00 in G11, Henley Business School, Whiteknights Campus. Admission is free, but places are limited – you can book your place here.
The Wolfenden lecture series is named in memory of Lord Wolfenden, who was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading from 1950–64. Lord Wolfenden chaired a committee that wrote the 1957 ‘Wolfenden Report’, a key milestone in LGBT+ history in the UK.
