National Pay Bargaining update
Tuesday, 14 May 2019
The Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff (JNCHES) met on three occasions during April to discuss the proposed pay settlement for 2019-20.
At the third and final meeting on 30 April 2019 the employers’ side made a final pay offer which comprises the following elements:
- Spinal point 2 will be deleted no later than April 2020.
- Spinal points 3 to 16 will be increased on a sliding scale from 3.65% to 1.82%.
- Spinal points from 17 and above will be increased by 1.8%.
If agreed the proposed increases would be effective from 1 August 2019.
The relevant trade unions, including UCU, have indicated that they will report on this offer to their respective committees and members before making a formal response. It is likely that this process will take several weeks and potentially extend into June.
I will provide further information as and when it becomes available.
Full details of the offer and the response to other elements of the unions’ claims can be viewed on the UCEA website
