Health and Life Sciences building update

Work on our new Health and Life Sciences building is progressing well. Colleagues who have passed by the site will have noticed that windows and exterior cladding is almost complete, allowing us to see how the finished building will fit in the existing landscape. The topping out ceremony (once the roof is complete) will be on 3 June attended by the Vice Chancellor and members of the project group.
With the interior fit out starting the building needs to be connected to external services and, because of the excavation required, the site entrance will move to be adjacent to car park 13. Use of the entrance will be variable but the traffic lights will be moved this new location to control traffic flow.
The interior walls are being erected creating the interior lay out of the building. For example, we can see the controlled environment rooms and offices on the 2nd floor taking shape. This month we also hear from Rachel Smith of Technical Services on what moving to the new building will mean to her.
With the completion of the main structure, exterior cladding will begin to be fitted to the building with construction scheduled to be completed in late 2019. The project demonstrates the University commitment to 2026: TRANSFORM capital investment programme, with £60m being invested to bring about closer integration of the school.
