Armistice Day Service

Rear flagpole (between the Library and Whiteknights House), Whiteknights campus; Peace garden, London Road campus; Flagpole near the cattle grid, Greenlands campus
All members of staff and students are invited to gather at whichever campus is most convenient, to join a memorial service to mark Armistice Day. The services will remember colleagues and students who have died over the last year, as well as those who have given their lives in service to their country. Each service will be led by the University Chaplaincy and is open to people of all faiths and none.
The Mirrors of Versailles: War & Peace in 1919 Paris

The Paris Peace Conference of 1919 marks a key moment in the attempt to create a peaceful international society in which men and women would live their own lives in safety and freedom from coercion. In this celebration of one hundred years since the Treaty of Versailles, which aspired to put an end to the ‘war that would end all wars', we consider the ideals and realities which were negotiated during the six months in Paris that changed the world. This lecture will be delivered by Dr Liliana Riga (University of Edinburgh) and Professor Jack E. Spence, OBE (King's College, London).

Ninth Annual Percy Ure Lecture: Reconceiving the Greek Renaissance

The Percy Ure Lecture is an annual academic highlight in the Department of Classics. This year's lecture, the ninth in the series, will be delivered by Professor Lin Foxhall, MBE (Hon.), FSA, the Rathbone Professor of Ancient History and Classical Archaeology at the University of Liverpool. This lecture will investigate how scholars have built narratives of the birth of the polis (city-state) from the available textual, archaeological and landscape evidence and how the process of constructing them has continued to change.

Festival Sinfonia present a concert celebrating heroes and villains from myths, legends, and blockbuster movies. The Great Hall, London Road campus
Music at Reading and the Chaplaincy invite you to join the University of Reading for the annual Christmas Carol Service, held in the picturesque Great Hall. There will be a mixture of seasonal choral pieces by the University Chamber Choir, traditional Christmas carols and readings from members of the University community. Join us for a perfect way to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.
