UCU industrial action: Message from the Vice-Chancellor
Monday, 25 November 2019
Dear colleagues,
As you will be aware, a period of strike action by members of the University & College Union (UCU) will start today, lasting for 8 days.
I have recorded a video message with some of my own reflections, as well as advice for students and colleagues which you can watch here.
We have also set up a dedicated section on the Staff Portal with further information and frequently asked questions for colleagues. A similar webpage with further advice for students has been set up on Essentials.
As you will see from the message, I am keen to emphasise that whatever differences of opinion we may have, we must all treat each other, whatever our position in this dispute, with respect.
You may also be aware that RUSU held a referendum of members last week to ask whether students supported the UCU industrial action (both strike and action short of strike) in relation to the pay and pensions disputes. The outcome is that the majority voted in support the action. I have since published a statement with further information for students which you can view here.
Kind regards,
Robert
