RUSU Excellence Awards - nominations open early and with a twist
Wednesday, 02 October 2019
"I was pleasantly surprised to have been nominated and to have then won the award - it feels really good. I believe it's one of the best things to have as a lecturer because for a career as a lecturer, students are the most important people, and so for this award to come from the students is really exciting." Dr Lebene Soga (Henley Business School).
Each year, Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) hosts the Partnership in Teaching and Learning Showcase in celebration of the RUSU Excellence Awards, and it is a highlight in the student and staff calendar.
The Excellence Awards recognise University of Reading colleagues who display excellent and innovative teaching practice and support for students. They are completely student-led and give students the opportunity to nominate colleagues who have gone above and beyond in their teaching roles, enhancing the student experience here at Reading.
The RUSU Partnership in Teaching & Learning Showcase provides an opportunity for staff and students from across the University to appreciate the great work - that can sometimes go unseen - in a forum outside of the day-to-day of teaching. The 2020 Showcase will be held in the spring term and will include the presentation of Excellence Awards to colleagues and students, as well as a selection of showcases given by winners. All are welcome to attend the event, which celebrates the partnership built between the University of Reading, RUSU and our student community. Further information will be shared nearer the time.
Together, the Awards and the Showcase help initiate important conversations about teaching, learning and working together, and provide an opportunity for great ideas and best practice to be shared and celebrated.
This year, nominations for the RUSU Excellence Awards officially open today, Wednesday October 2, and close on Sunday 15 March. Students are asked to submit nominations on RUSU's website.

The new ‘UR Excellent!' recognition scheme
This year, Fifi Bangham, RUSU's Education Officer, will be launching an exciting new scheme in association with the RUSU Excellence Awards. The ‘UR Excellent!' recognition scheme encourages students to feed-back and thank colleagues who they feel have gone above and beyond in their roles, at any point over the year.
There are no specific award criteria - students can simply acknowledge any member of staff at the University by filling out a nomination postcard and dropping it into one of the new ‘UR Excellent!' postboxes around campus. If you are nominated, you will receive a pin badge to attach to your lanyard, as a reminder and outward sign of the impact you have had on a student's experience here at Reading. More information on this exciting new scheme will follow!
