Further success for University rowers
Friday, 11 October 2019
The Reading University Boat Club (RUBC) recently took part the Pairs Head of the River event. Our participation was very successful, with Rory Harris & George Lawton winning, not just in their class (Men’s Double Sculls), but posting the fastest time of any crew on the day. Charles Powell & Alastair Holborough won their class (Lightweight Double Sculls). And great performances from Lucy Ryan and Liv Morgan and Rachel Heap and Sophie Lewis saw them finish 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Women’s Double Sculls; and Alex Badcott and Edoardo Marshall finishing 4th in the Men’s Double Sculls.
The Paris Head of the River is an annual event is rowed over a 4.5km course between Chiswick and Hammersmith Bridges in London. It is open to clubs, universities and schools for double sculls and coxless pairs in various classes, including men's, women's; juniors and veterans. This year there were 458 entries in the event.
Director of Rowing, Will Rand, said:
“It’s really exciting to be performing so well early in the season. All our crews performed fantastically and Rory and George did a superb job to win the whole event, setting them up well for the "Head of the Charles" where representing the University of Reading against crews from across the world.”
Head of the Charles will be taking place in Boston, U.S.A. on 19 October where Sean O' Mahony and Edoardo Marshall will be joining Rory and George in representing the University at this prestigious event. In the more immediate future most of the club will be competing this Saturday (12 October) in the Reading Small Boats Head of the River.
