The roles are open only to internal candidates and appointments will be on a fixed term basis until 31 July 2025. They offer an opportunity to step into a Board-level role, for colleagues keen to develop their careers further by taking on an academic leadership and managerial role at an important time for the institution.
Job details and how to apply

Applicants are required to submit a statement of interest and suitability (1000 words maximum) and an up to date CV by midnight Thursday 7 November 2019.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) will be responsible for ensuring that the University of Reading provides an excellent education to all of its students and makes significant progress towards its aspiration to be in the top quartile in the UK sector for teaching excellence, while ensuring that we remain genuinely people-oriented.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International and Student Experience) will be responsible for working towards our aspiration to be a university that is genuinely people-oriented and offers an excellent student experience for all our students in the UK and abroad while increasing the University of Reading’s global engagement and the recruitment of international students.
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor roles will be an integral part of the University Executive Board (UEB) which is collectively responsible for the day-to-day management and leadership of the University.
Reporting to the Strategy and Finance Committee of the Council and to the Senate, the Board currently consists of the Vice-Chancellor, four Pro-Vice-Chancellors (one of whom also acts as Deputy Vice-Chancellor), the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Strategy Officer & University Secretary.
Following recent practice and reflecting the teamwork ethos of the University Executive Board, the precise allocation of duties such as responsibility for the Teaching and Learning Deans and for one or more Heads of Function, and the chairing of Committees and working groups, will be determined in discussion with all members of UEB, including the new appointees. In reaching a decision, the balance of responsibilities across UEB members, the skills and interests of individual members, and the importance of continuity for functions where possible, will all be borne in mind.
We are committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce and we welcome applications where a flexible working pattern and/or a job share is proposed. Job-share applications need not indicate who the other half might be, although coordinated applications from two separate members of staff are welcomed. In this instance, however, each candidate will be assessed on their own merit in terms of their suitability in fulfilling the requirements of the role.
