Callmy Alert: have you downloaded the app?
Monday, 21 October 2019
Callmy Alert is the University’s mass notification app designed to alert staff and students of major incidents affecting campus (such as a major fire, toxic chemical or gas leak or firearms incident).
It is free and can be easily downloaded from the Apple, Android and Windows app stores.
Should such an incident occur, you will receive a simple message, in real time, informing you where the incident is and which areas or the buildings to avoid. The system updates continuously and covers all of the University estate so if you are at your desk or on the move, it will help keep you safe.
To download the app, visit the App Store relevant to your device. After installation, there is a simple verification process to follow and you’ll need to add the group name UoRalert.
The app only takes 11.8MB of your storage, and will not access your contacts, share your data, offer in-app purchases or send spam. You will receive periodic test messages, so it is worth checking that to make sure everything is working properly.
We strongly encourage you to download the app. Incidents such as these are of course rare, but safety precautions are important, and the app could help keep you safe.
For firearms and weapons-based incidents, the app complements the recommended Police advice of Run, Hide, Tell. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the guidance.
