Monday, 28 October 2019
We are delighted to announce that Professor Phil Dash has been appointed Head of School for the School of Biological Sciences (SBS).
Phil will start his six-year term on 2 January 2020, replacing Professor Rob Jackson who is leaving in January 2020 to join the University of Birmingham.
Phil is a University of Reading graduate and joined our teaching staff as a Lecturer in Biomedical Science in October 2007. He was appointed Associate Professor in Cell Biology in 2015 and has been Professor of Cancer Biology since August this year. He is also the Deputy Head of School and Director of Teaching & Learning at SBS.
His research focuses on understanding how cancer cells move through their environment during the spread of cancer around the body – and has received funding from UK Research & Innovation’s Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the British Heart Foundation.
Mark Fellowes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resources) said, “I am pleased that Phil has agreed to take on the Head of School role. We have worked together at the School of Biological Sciences and I have been impressed with his ideas and commitment to the School. I congratulate Phil on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to working with him.”
Phil Dash said “I feel privileged to have this opportunity to lead the School of Biological Sciences for the next six years. We have a great team in the School that has delivered record student numbers, excellent quality teaching and world-class research. With the Health and Life Sciences building opening in 2020 to provide a new home for the School this is an exciting time to lead the School and help it go from strength to strength.”
