Appointments to new research committees
Friday, 13 September 2019
In July we advertised a number of open positions on the newly restructured research governance committees. We had a very strong response from to the call from colleagues across the University, with almost 80 expressions of interest for the 11 openings. This is a promising and positive response to this new form of research governance. The positions are now confirmed on the new committees as follows:
University Board for Research and Innovation
Sue Walker (Typography) and Richard Frazier (Food Science, Senate representatives) and Matthew Windsor (Law, Early Career Researcher)
Committee for Researcher Development and Postgraduate Studies
Nicolas Bellouin (Meteorology) and Katherine Harloe (Classics)
Committee for Open Research and Research Integrity
Etienne Roesch (Psychology) and Philip Beaman (Psychology)
Committee for Research Infrastructure
Jon Gibbins (Biomedical Sciences) and Luke Bell (APD) were appointed alongside Jenny McGrother (Health and Safety Services) as a standing member of the Committee.
University Committee for Impact, Partnerships, and Engagement
Hilary Geoghegan (Global Development) and Rachel McCrindle (Biomedical Engineering)
These (and other changes) have been made in response to a wide-ranging appraisal of progress towards the Research 2020 Strategy. An overview of the revised research governance structure, and a summary of the key changes, can be seen here, as well as the Terms of Reference and membership of each of the committees.
We are currently working on a short document outlining the changed ways of working of all University-level research committees, which we will share in due course. The minutes from all University-level research committee meetings will be published on the staff portal on a new page about Research Governance (coming soon).
