Discover how research at Reading is addressing twenty-first century challenges.

At 1pm each weekday between Monday 30 September and Wednesday 9 October you can find out more about the research projects displayed in the library foyer (exhibition runs 30 September – 12 October).

Each day, in an informal ten-minute presentation, one of the finalists from the University’s Research Engagement and Impact Awards will present their life-changing work and answer any questions you might have.

  • Monday 30 September – Confronting hate speech - Dr Federico Faloppa, Department of Languages and Cultures
  • Tuesday 1 October – Priority setting in the NHS - Professor Chris Newdick, School of Law
  • Wednesday 2 October – Undergraduate research benefits local environment – Professor Jo Clark, School of Geography and Environmental Science
  • Thursday 3 October – Safeguarding children in conflict and crisis – Professor Rosa Freedman, School of Law
  • Friday 4 October – Real-time flood forecasts save lives – Dr Rebecca Emerton and Dr Andrea Ficchi, Department of Meteorology
  • Monday 7 October – Border checks on the move – Professor James Ferryman – Department of Computer Science
  • Wednesday 9 October - Using design against drug-resistant infection – Professor Sue Walker, Department of Typography and Graphic Communication

Each event will last no longer than 30 minutes.

The talks accompany a poster exhibition from the winners and finalists of the University’s Research Engagement and Impact Awards 2019. This annual competition celebrates excellence in our research, highlighting projects that address real world problems and change the world around us.
