Applications open for Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme

Thursday, 03 December 2020

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP) offers undergraduate students the chance to gain hands-on research experience on projects covering all disciplines across the University. The scheme is now in its sixteenth year and has supported over 800 undergraduate research projects.

Applications are being accepted for collaborative research projects between academic departments and undergraduate students.

The programme provides undergraduates with an opportunity to gain research experience through a paid six-week project during the summer vacation. For researchers, it is equally rewarding as you can play an active role in helping a student become a promising candidate for postgraduate research.

The deadline for applications is 17:00, 18 December 2020. Visit reading.ac.uk/urop for further details, or email urop@reading.ac.uk for advice on applications or information on the scheme in general.

As a researcher, you can also apply to be a Principal Investigator on UROP projects - to qualify, you must be a permanent member of staff, or on a fixed-term contract running past November 2021. Post-Doctoral Research Assistants can apply to be Principal Investigators if their supervisor is listed as a Co-Investigator, and PhD students may co-supervise projects only.

UROP Showcase

A UROP showcase is held every year to highlight the projects that were completed over the summer. This would usually be a face-to-face event, but due to COVID-19, this year's showcase took place online.

All projects are available to view in this online brochure.
