Sharing T&L practice through Staff Showcases (recordings available)

Smiling tutor

CQSD has run several popular showcases during the Autumn Term to help support colleagues with their transition to the new teaching environment, and to enable staff to share their practice, strategies, ideas and expertise in different aspects of blended and online teaching and learning.  

Below is a brief summary of each showcase - if the title is hyperlinked, it's linked to a slightly more detailed blog post about the session which includes highlights and a link to the recording which you might like to watch as a useful resource.  

Aspects of Autumn Term T&L

Cindy Becker (SLL) shared her use of video introductions to her modules. Calvin Smith (Maths) talked about his team's Blackboard template and their form for students to use to report access issues with any module materials on Blackboard. Maggie Cooper (HBS) explained how she'd adapted a Part 1 Business module to deliver effectively in the new blended mode, and Vicky Collins (ISLI) shared her insights into building rapport with her community of students. Using module roadmaps & weekly plans to help students

Julia Rodriguez Garcia (Food Science & Technology) and Kai Li Chung (Psychology, UoRM) shared their use of these tools to help their students navigate their way through their learning materials, activities, assessments and live sessions in the new blended environment, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback they received. 

Making and using screencasts

Sam Bizley (SPCLS), Adrian Aronsson-Storrier (Law) and Sue Blackett (HBS) shared their expertise of creating screencast resources and engaging their students with them. Early adopters of this technology and members of the university's personal capture pilot project in 2018/19, these staff were well-placed to share their expertise and help support colleagues.

Flipped learning

Sakhtivel Vaiyapuri (SCFP), Daniela Standen (ISLI), Evangelos Delivopoulos (SBS) and Jane Setter (SLL) shared their insights from their use of the flipped learning model of delivery which they'd been using prior to the pandemic and which helped them adjust to teaching in the new environment.

T&L Conversation: Creating a sense of community and engaging students in the online environment

We thought we'd try out a new format for a session and so was born the T&L ‘Conversation'. Focused on creating a sense of community and engaging students, this was a more informal and unstructured session aimed primarily at providing colleagues with the opportunity to meet online and have time and space to discuss their experiences and ideas with others.
