As part of the University's drive to become more sustainable, Procurement has identified an opportunity to source a mobile phone that reduces reliance on conflict minerals and potential for modern slavery in the supply chain.

We're delighted to now offer Fairphone, an ethical mobile phone brand whose handsets make use of recycled materials in place of traditional plastics and are sourced from an audited conflict-free supply chain.

If you need to replace your handset, we encourage you to consider switching to the Fairphone. Because of all the good work Fairphone do, the handsets are slightly more costly to manufacture when compared to equivalent handsets from other manufacturers. However, a subsidy has been put in place to help offset this, which reduces the cost of the handset to a competitive market rate.

To find out more, please visit our Procurement ‘I want to buy' page or by emailing procurement@reading.ac.uk.
