Lunchtime seminars: (Dis)ability at the Centre

A thought-provoking lunchtime lecture series examining disability will take place over the coming weeks.
Organised by the Centre for Health and Humanities, the (Dis)ability at the Centre series will explore the experiences and representations of disability past and present, in and outside of academia.
Each session will feature a guest speaker from inside and outside the University of Reading, including representatives from our Staff Disability Network, which supports colleagues with disabilities, impairments and mental health conditions.
The programme is as follows:
- 3 February: Who needs a Neurodiversity In / And Creative Research Network? A film screening, provocation and discussion with Dr Kai Syng Tan (Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University). 12:00-13:30, G13 Chancellors building, Whiteknights.
- 24 February: Learning to live with visible facial differences: the reintegration of facially injured servicemen in post-WW1 Great Britain. Dr Marjorie Gehrhardt (Modern Languages, University of Reading). 12:00-13:30, G13 Chancellors building, Whiteknights.
- 9 March: The French Metanarrative of Blindness. Professor Hannah Thompson (Centre for Visual Cultures, RHUL). 12:00-13:30, G13 Chancellors building, Whiteknights.
- 23 March: Ableism in academia: the lived experiences of disabled, chronically ill and/or neurodiverse staff in higher education. Nicole Brown (UCL) in conversation with representatives of the UoR Staff Disability Network. 12:00-14:00, G13 Chancellors building, Whiteknights.
All are welcome, and there is no need to book in advance. If you'd like to attend a session but can't stay for the duration, please feel free to stop by for as long as you can.
