Volunteer for virtual Open Days
Thursday, 11 June 2020
You may be aware that we are delivering our June Open Days this year as Virtual Events. Our online Open Days will take place on the same dates we were expecting to run the on-campus events, but will run over a 3 hour period as follows:
- Friday 19 June – 16:00 – 19:00 (staff support required from 15:00 – 19:30)
- Saturday 20 June – 11:00 – 14:00 (staff support required from 10:00 – 14:30)
The events will be hosted on an ‘Open Day online hub microsite’ and will include; programmed live sessions from academic colleagues, student support and service providers using Microsoft Teams Live platform, drop in chat with students (and staff where applicable) in Unibuddy Live Events, and the opportunity for visitors to watch pre-recorded material, explore our campus using virtual tours, and find out more through video content and other web material about the University and our courses.
In order to successfully run the Virtual Open Days we are going to need over 100 colleguaes to help run things ‘backstage’ (so to speak) on the day.
There are two main roles we are seeking support from colleagues across the University to help fill (for both of which we will provide training in advance):
- Supporting a live presentation on MS Teams in a ‘Producer’ role (acting to support the presenter by coordinating slide decks and / or video content)
- Overseeing a Unibuddy chat channel (triaging questions and ensuring all questions receive a response by the students and staff in the channel).
We would be hugely grateful and appreciative of any support people might be able to offer (no matter whether that just be for one session (45 mins in length with a small amount of prep time either side) or for the full period of time on both days). We will of course let colleagues know as soon as possible when we have our volunteer pool which role they will be assigned to and provide the necessary training. It is also worth nothing therefore that colleagues will also need to be available for ‘dress rehearsals’ in the week before the events – specific timings yet to be confirmed.
If you do think you may have some colleagues who will be interested in helping on the Open Day, please ask them to complete this form (as soon as possible) so that we can assess availability.
We’re really excited to be delivering our first virtual Open Day, and although the circumstances are challenging, we truly believe we can make it as fantastic and welcoming experience for our visitors as we know our on-campus Open Days are.
