Postal Services: revised services on campus
Friday, 27 March 2020
Postal Services are currently operating from Whiteknights House under the following regime:
The Mail Shop
The Mail Shop is closed. We will not process outgoing personal mail.
Delivery rounds
Delivery rounds on foot and by van have stopped. We will not visit any other location for deliveries or collections.
London Road campus
London Road campus mail is being brought to us but other carrier deliveries are not.
Royal Mail and parcels
We are still receiving Royall Mail and parcels from companies that are still operating (for most buildings) and we are accepting these for all closed buildings if the delivery drivers find their way to us. It is likely many carriers, finding locations closed, will simply return items to the sender.
We are sorting and storing what comes in on a building wide basis and this can be collected from the basement of Whiteknights House if you are authorised to be on campus.
If during this time you urgently need to have something sent to Whiteknights, please use the following address and the protocol below to arrange collection:
Your Name
C/O Whiteknights House B01
University of Reading
Whiteknights
Shinfield Road
Reading
RG6 6UR
Before collecting, please telephone (0118 378) 6530 for precise instructions on how to do this following our social-distancing protocols, or to find out if we have something in particular that you are looking for, and to agree a time slot. Please do not rely on voicemail, you must speak to somebody before you come to Whiteknights House.
We will post items we receive for as long as Royal Mail, DHL and Parcelforce continue to collect. Before bringing items to us, please telephone to arrange access, as above.
Carrier collection times will vary and we cannot guarantee to complete any processing on the day we receive items. UK 1st and 2nd class outgoing letters, packets and small parcels will not be posted until the following day. Other items might be posted on the same day, including Royal Mail signed-for.
The Royal Mail Coronavirus page includes the latest bulletins and links for information about international mail.
Parcelforce and DHL have similar pages.
Please use the above links to determine what may or not be possible during this emergency.
It should be noted that for all the DHL services you are likely to use during this emergency, DHL have decided to add an ‘Emergency Situation Surcharge', to all shipments.
