World Mental Health Day: looking after yourself
Friday, 09 October 2020
Saturday 10 October is World Mental Health Day, with the theme for this year's event being 'mental health for all'.
Looking after your health and wellbeing is vital, especially during these uncertain times. We have many tools and resources to help support you, which can all be easily accessed through our Health and Wellbeing pages.
The resources can be broken down into four key themes:
- 5 steps to wellbeing: evidence suggests there are 5 steps we can all take to improve our mental wellbeing - be active, connect, take notice (or be mindful), keep learning and give to others. Explore how making small changes can make big changes.
- Wellbeing at work: work is good for physical and mental health and wellbeing. There are many resources you can access for all aspects of working life - these have been gathered together to make it easy to find the service you want.
- My wellbeing: we have created practical resources to help you manage areas of your own health, including healthy eating, physical activity, smoking and alcohol. Take a look at the resources available.
- Employee Assistance Programme: our Confidential Care scheme provides an independent, free, confidential support and counselling service. Find out how to use the programme.
You will also find many COVID-19 related resources from CiC, the providers of our Employee Assistance Programme. Among these include resources for coping with anxiety and stress brought on by the pandemic, facing fears, dealing with uncertainty and building resilience.

Every employee of the University is entitled to Confidential Care, a free and confidential support service available 24/7.
Support is available for whatever issues you might be facing, including work stress, depression, marriage and relationship issues, legal concerns, coping with change, parenting issues, financial problems, health issues and much more.
You can also access the Well Online portal and app, offering information and advice to help you optimise your health and wellbeing.
And for managers, there's a dedicated Managerial Advice line offering support for managers with concerns about colleagues and challenges within their teams.
