T&L Showcase courses focus on autumn term teaching
Monday, 07 September 2020
CQSD are holding three courses focusing on different aspects of teaching in the autumn term. They will take place in the week beginning 14 September, and places can be booked now.
T&L Showcase: Aspects of Autumn Term Teaching (Webinar)
Tuesday 15 September 2020, 12:00-13:00
Whatever stage you are at in planning your teaching for the Autumn Term, it is often useful to hear and discuss the experiences of others in order to help generate and clarify your own ideas. In this showcase, four colleagues from across the University will share aspects of their plans for teaching in the Autumn Term, covering issues such as building rapport with students, taking advantage of online teaching, and getting feedback from students.
There will be opportunities to ask questions and discuss issues raised. Speakers at this showcase are: Cindy Becker (SLL), Calvin Smith (SMPCS), Maggie Cooper (HBS) and Vicky Collins (ISLI). This session aligns with A1, A2, A4, K2, K4, K5, V1 and V2 of the UKPSF.
TEL Showcase: Flipped Learning (Webinar)
Wednesday 16 September 2020, 14:00-15:00
Autumn Term Teaching & Learning will be heavily influenced by the flipped learning model - an approach to teaching that provides the resources for knowledge acquisition outside of the classroom, allowing time for face-to-face interactions (whether online or in person) to be active, engaging, and focused on guiding students to applying their learning. This showcase will focus on experiences from academics across the University who adopted flipped learning in their modules prior to the recent rapid transition to online delivery. It will be an opportunity for colleagues to benefit from their experience and insights, and there will be an opportunity to put questions to our four presenters. This session aligns with A1-A4, K1-K4 and V1 of the UKPSF.
TEL Showcase: Making & Using Screencasts in T&L (Webinar)
Friday 18 September 2020, 13:00-14:00
Making screencast videos is something all teaching staff have been, or will be, doing to make learning content available to students in the Autumn Term. In addition to CQSD's screen-casting staff development webinar and online screen-casting toolkit support, this showcase will be a forum for three of our teaching colleagues to share their experience of and advice about creating effective screencasts.
Sue Blackett (HBS), Sam Bizley (Pharmacy) and Adrian-Aronsson-Storrier (Law) will be sharing their knowledge, insights and advice from their experience of creating screencasts in their own practice. All were participants in our personal capture / screen-casting pilot project in 2018/19 and have extensive experience in producing this particular type of learning resource and engaging students with the content. This session aligns with A1, A2, A4, K2, K3, K4 and V1 of the UKPSF.
You can find examples of screencasts made by colleagues for various purposes in the Making Screencasts online toolkit page.
