Got something to share for #DiverseReading?
Friday, 25 September 2020
The central Diversity and Inclusion Team at the University of Reading are looking for contributions from all staff and students for #DiverseReading!
Throughout Autumn Term 2020, we want to be sharing more digital, easy to access content with a focus on race. In October, for Black History Month in the UK, we would also like to highlight pieces that explore Black history and the Black Lives Matter movement as well as pieces that celebrate the too-often unheralded accomplishments of Black individuals and share Black voices.
These pieces can take on any form –
Writing: non-fiction, biographical writing, reflective pieces, reviews, fiction, poetry, short stories…
Visual art: 3D, 2D, illustrations, digital art, photography…
Some examples of pieces we would be keen to publish on our blog are:
- Book/film/television recommendations and reviews
- Educational and information pieces
- Pieces about wider work about race and representation across UoR
- Creative pieces that explore racial identity
Please email your submissions to diversity@reading.ac.uk along with your name (as you would like it displayed if published), your staff role / year and degree subject and a 1-2 sentences biography if you would like this to be published with your piece.
We have tried to answer some of the questions you may have:
How do I submit?
Send your piece to diversity@reading.ac.uk. Include your name, your role (if you’re staff) or your year and degree subject (if you’re a student) as well as a 1-2 sentences biography if you would like this to be published with your piece!
Is there a word limit?
We ask that written pieces are kept to a blog post length of no more than 1000 words. Submitted as a Word document file.
What about for visual content?
Please send your images to us in jpg. or png. format. Pdfs can be linked to separately on the blog.
Do all contributions need to be original pieces?
If you have previously work on a project/piece you would like to share with the UoR community through #DiverseReading, we will be happy to consider posting this on our blog.
If there are external resources you think would be informative to share, we will be happy to consider also posting these if they are incorporated into your own written piece. Please see #DiverseReading for some examples of this.
How many pieces will be published?
We would like to publish as many relevant pieces we receive. We aim to post 1-2 submissions on the blog per week throughout Autumn term, starting in October.
Are there deadlines?
No, pieces will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout Autumn Term. However, the sooner you send us your work, the more chance we will be able to publish your work!
