University team bowled over on the Isle of Wight
Wednesday, 24 March 2010
Twenty-seven members of the University of Reading Bowling Club have just spent an enjoyable bowling competition weekend at Warner's Bembridge Coast Hotel, Isle of Wight. Other bowling clubs from Godalming, Portsmouth and Salisbury also entered the competition, making nearly a hundred bowlers in total.
During the weekend the University entered six teams of four, playing three matches in round robin leagues, and five of our teams made it to the quarterfinals, which resulted in two University teams battling it out in the final.
A presentation was made at the end to all the semi finalist, runners up, and winners. The winning four were Paul Janota (I.T. Services), and his wife Sandra Gomez, and Stan and Babs Hughesdon, who will now be invited to take part in a Champion of Champion Competition to be held in September at Warner's at Lakeside in Hayling Island.
The University Bowling Club Open Day for new bowlers will be held on Sunday 25 April at 2.00pm, everyone welcome, all you will need is a pair of flat heeled shoes.
The University bowls club can be found at Earley Gate, turn right at the first roundabout and then right again, the club will put signposts out on the day.
