'The University of Reading contributes, at a conservative estimate, over £600 million to the regional economy every year. The new Science and Innovation Park will ensure that impact continues to grow'
There will also be close links between the University and local and international businesses via collaborative research projects, staff exchanges and student placements.
The successful planning application was the result of years of work on the project, including two exhibitions designed for the local community. The University now has permission for Phase One of the project to devise 18,580 sqm of floor space with associated shared facilities and services. The Science and Innovation Park will create both employment opportunities for a highly skilled workforce, working with the knowledge base and technical facilities in and around the University, as well as providing jobs for support and service staff.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gordon Marshall said: "We are delighted that Wokingham has supported the University's concept and plans for a Science and Innovation Park. The successful delivery of a complex project such as this involves fostering very strong partnerships with a wide range of local and regional organisations, businesses and statutory authorities, as well as the enthusiasm of the local community.
"The University of Reading contributes, at a conservative estimate, over £600 million to the regional economy every year. The new Science and Innovation Park will ensure that impact continues to grow and delivers tangible benefits to the local and regional economy. We would like to thank everyone for their support and feedback on the project so far."
