Why not join the campus spring clean?
Monday, 19 April 2010
On Friday 23 April, The Big Tidy Up is holding a nationwide St George's Day event to pick up litter all over the country, and we're joining in on campus.
Over 20,000 groups have signed up to take part in the event, which is being organised by Keep Britain Tidy. This national environmental charity aims to raise public awareness of the things that impact negatively on the places where we live, work, invest and visit, and to encourage people to look after their surroundings.
From 12.00pm until 4.00pm The Energy and Sustainability Team will be leading our own litter pick around Whiteknights Campus and they would like you to join them. If you're a member of staff or student with some time to spare, even if it is just half an hour in your lunch break, please do go along to help spring clean the University.
Jenny Honeybill, Environment and Sustainability Coordinator, said: "The University of Reading Whiteknights campus is potentially a beauty spot, but it's been swamped by so much rubbish that our Clean and Green team and Grounds department sometimes struggle to keep the campus litter free. We are hoping that this litter pick will be popular with staff and students and allow them to improve our environment."
They will be meeting outside the Palmer building to greet the first set of volunteers at 12.00pm. If you are interested in helping out, please email waste@reading.ac.uk stating when you are available to help. Any time you can give will be very much appreciated.
