Professor receives two fellowships in same week
Friday, 23 April 2010
Professor Rainer Cramer, from the Department of Chemistry and Head of Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics in the BioCentre, has recently been awarded two prestigious fellowships.
Professor Cramer was admitted as Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and in the same week he was also awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers.
The Fellowships are in recognition of Professor Cramer's work in mass spectrometry and its application in the Biosciences. This has led to the development of new molecular techniques, which will be used to advance biomedical and life sciences research, including research into cancer.
Royal Society of Chemistry Fellowships are awarded to applicants who have at least five years experience and have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement or application of chemical science the chemical science profession.
The Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship will allow Professor Cramer to further investigate his newly developed mass spectrometric technique in collaboration with the Institute for Medical Physics and Biophysics at the University of Muenster, Germany. The research will be carried out over the course of three years, from 2010 to 2012, for three months each summer.
The Alexander von Humboldt foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent scientists and scholars in Germany with those from other countries.
Professor Cramer said: "The research will provide an important starting point for developing further collaborations and networking opportunities between my research lab and other German research groups, so I am very pleased to receive the fellowship that has made this possible."
