'We are delighted that not only did we pass, we got Silver!'
The University's Student Union is one of only three universities in the UK to have been granted a silver award by the Students Union Evaluation Initiative (SUEI).
SUEI aims to make a positive difference to the lives of students by improving the outcomes of the work of their Students' Unions, and is considered to the mark of a good Students' Union.
SUEI is an assessment model that aims to improve services and activities provided by Students' Unions in the UK. Its focus is on improving the student experience, building a better union, and representing students more effectively.
This method of assessment involves almost 80 Students' Unions across the UK, who are externally assessed by SUEI on criteria such as student participation, representation, vision, management, reputation and communication. The Union's current position is determined, and then it is decided how the Union would like to move against the key lines of enquiry in order to make continuous improvement.
Peter Williams, former CEO of the Quality Assurance Agency said: "We are pleased to support the work done by SUEI, and we support and enhance the approaches taken by Students' Unions to represent the interests of their members and involve them in University decision making."
Sinead Brennan, RUSU President said: "The assessment process began several years ago and has involved the work of three successive presidents. We are delighted that not only did we pass, we got Silver! There are only two other Student Unions in the country with Silver (Bath and Hull) and only one with Gold (Leeds) so we're in good company."
