'Acupuncture, which is a form of ancient Chinese medicine, works on the principle that illness and pain occur when the bodyÔÇÖs qi (vital energy) cannot flow freely.'
The SportsPark has recently gained two new acupuncturists, adding to its range of therapies that are available for staff, students and members of the public.
Susannah Fone and Miguel Caballero, who took over the practice in April, are both fully qualified, experienced practitioners, and are members of the regulating body, the British Acupuncture Council. They both run their own separate practices, but are based upstairs in the SportsPark building four days a week, offering staff and students a discounted service in a convenient location.
Acupuncture, which is a form of ancient Chinese medicine, works on the principle that illness and pain occur when the body's qi (vital energy) cannot flow freely. By inserting ultra-fine, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, a traditional acupuncturist seeks to re-establish the free flow of qi to restore balance and trigger the body's natural healing response. It can help treat a wide range of conditions, including: back pain, stress, depression, headaches, migraines, tension and insomnia, as well as specific localised injuries.
Susannah said: "Acupuncture is a very safe and effective holistic treatment that has been proven as a successful treatment of many different illnesses and conditions. People are often worried about it being painful, but the needles are so tiny that you just feel a very gentle sensation, rather than pain. The amount of needles we use depends on the condition, but our clients find it to be a very relaxing, positive experience."
Appointments are available on Saturdays and Wednesday mornings with Susannah, and Tuesdays, Wednesday afternoons and Thursdays with Miguel.
To book, please contact Susannah on 0118 986 6140/07939 067 278, or Miguel on 0118 972 0369/07777 689 773. They are also happy to come and meet with you if you would like have an informal chat about acupuncture and whether it is suitable for you.
