The 3rd Degree show needs your brains
Wednesday, 02 June 2010
BBC Radio 4 is coming to the University of Reading to record a new quiz show hosted by Steve Punt (from Radio 4's the Now Show). The 3rd Degree is a quiz show that travels to a different university each week and pits three undergraduates against three academics in a general knowledge /specialist subject quiz.
The audience will be composed of students and academics from that University.
The 3rd Degree will have the underlying rigour of a formal quiz, but combined with a light-hearted quest to discover how the students will fare against their mentors....
There will be two teams of three - three members of staff versus three students. For whatever academic subject the member of staff represents, there will be a matching student of that subject on the other team, to yield three 'pairs' and three 'specialist subjects' devolved from a particular course.
The rounds vary between specialist knowledge and general knowledge, quick-fire, bell-and-buzzer, individual questions and 'highbrow' and 'lowbrow'.
The two teams will sit at desks on opposing sides in the Palmer Theatre with the Chairman in between. The show will be recorded in the afternoon/early evening of Wednesday 27 October.
The show is produced by David Tyler for Pozzitive Television, a company that specialises in scripted comedy and entertainment. Shows include Victoria Wood's dinnerladies and a lot of Steve Coogan's work (such as the Paul & Pauline Calf Video Diaries and Coogan's Run). Various producing and directing credits range from Spitting Image and Not The Nine O'Clock News via French & Saunders through to Little Britain.
