Calling all volunteers!
Tuesday, 22 June 2010
The Volunteers for Museums project is looking for willing volunteers to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved and help local museums, which rely on support from people giving up their time.
The project, which is based at the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL), is working in partnership with nine museums across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, to enhance the opportunities that are available for volunteers in museums so that there are a greater number and variety of roles. They are also working to support the recognition of volunteers' skills and experience.
There are a variety of projects on offer to suit every interest whether working on your own or as part of a team. All volunteers receive training in their area of work as well as a general introduction to volunteering in the museums.
Volunteering opportunities include: working behind the scenes to help with artefact conservation, assisting with events and acting as a tour guide to help visitors enjoy their museum experience.
To find out more, call the project team on 0118 378 5210. They will put you in touch directly with their partner museums depending on what your interests. You will need a CV that includes information about your employment history and interests, along with the contact details of two referees.
For further information about the museums involved please visit the Volunteers for Museums website.
