Planning application submitted for homes south of M4
Tuesday, 06 July 2010
The University has recently submitted three planning applications for the first phase of its proposals to develop land south of the M4. The plans have been submitted to Wokingham Borough Council, and once they are registered should be publicly available on the Council's website.
The three applications are for a proposed development west of Shinfield, which includes up to 1200 homes, a primary school and community facilities; a Relief Road east of Shinfield; and a green space for public use known as a SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space) adjacent to The River Loddon.
These planning applications form part of the wider development plans (South of M4 Strategic Development Location) being promoted by a consortium, which comprises The University of Reading, Taylor Wimpey and David Wilson Homes.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gordon Marshall said: "These planning applications reflect many years of ongoing consultation with the communities of Shinfield, Spencers Wood and Three Mile Cross. The proposals will help meet the housing need that exists in Wokingham Borough, and respond to Wokingham's own Core Strategy which identified a need for new housing and community facilities in the area south of the M4.
"All the proceeds from the sale of the land will be re-invested in the core activity of the University, furthering the excellent teaching and research for which we have garnered an international reputation. Through projects such as these housing schemes or the Science and Innovation Park in Wokingham, the University will continue to play an integral part in the economic development of the region."
