Whiteknights Tree Walk
Monday, 19 July 2010
There are many unusual, old, and beautiful trees that can be found throughout the Whiteknights campus; 25 of which have been included in the new Whiteknights Tree Walk guide.
This walk, which has been put together by Rupert Taylor and Jo Bisley from the Facilities Management Directorate, is a permissive walk around the Whiteknights campus, that starts and finishes from the sports grounds near the Shinfield Road entrance.
In its present form the campus covers 123 hectares, including the lake, conservation meadows and woodlands. Its history explains much of the reason that the legacy of planting is here to enjoy today.
Rupert Taylor, Assistant Grounds Manager, said: "The fascinating thing about trees is every species has a story; where it was found, who discovered it or what it is used for. The tree walk is a great opportunity to make people aware of the huge diversity of tree species found at Whiteknights and the value that we place on them."
