Public lecture: Climate change - the science explained
Tuesday, 02 November 2010
With all the media attention on climate change, it can be hard to separate media hype from scientific fact.
On Wednesday 10 November Professor Nigel Arnell, Director of the Walker Institute for Climate System Research, will present the second of this year's Public Lectures: ‘Climate change - the science explained'.
Have you ever wondered exactly what is happening to the Earth's climate? Is it getting warmer, and if so, are people responsible for this change or is it happening naturally?
With all the media attention on climate change, it can be hard to separate media hype from scientific fact. In this month's University Public Lecture, Professor Nigel Arnell will explain the science behind climate change.
Professor Arnell will also analyse how much responsibility humans should accept for warming the climate and how much is occurring as a natural phenomenon. The impacts of the warming planet on water, food and biodiversity will also be discussed focusing on what we know and, importantly, what we don't yet know.
After the lecture there will be an opportunity to ask questions to a panel of experts. So come along and learn what science can tell us in an easily understandable way. Everyone is welcome, no ticket required - Wednesday 10 November 8.00pm Palmer Building, Whiteknights.
All of the University Public Lectures in this year's Series are on Wednesdays and start at 8pm. They will be held in the Palmer Building on the University's Whiteknights campus. Lectures are free to attend and no ticket is required. Please visit the public lecture series website for more details or contact Laura Walsh on 0118 378 4313 or email l.j.walsh@reading.ac.uk.
The next lecture is ‘Post election reflections - is the British Parliament above the law?' by Dr Stuart Lakin, from the School of Law, on Wednesday 8 December.
