'I've found working with the press team enormously helpful in publicising our excavation at Silchester.'
The University's Press Office has launched a new website that highlights to staff the enormous benefits of working effectively with the media relations team.
'Working with the press office' explains the benefits and need of promoting University research/events to media. It contains handy hints for staff when talking to journalists and conducting interviews, and has information on how to draft press releases. Staff can also read the thoughts of colleagues who have enjoyed and profited from working with the press office.
James Barr, University Press Officer said: "The website is a 'one-stop-shop' for staff wishing to find out how working with the media benefits them and the University. Due to recent changes in the HE sector, there is increased importance in communicating university research more widely. This is emphasised by the proposed changes to the Research Assessment Exercise where impact and citation are likely to carry more weight.
"The press team look forward to hearing more about the important work being undertaken at Reading, and using the media to raise the profile of staff and the University."
Professor Mike Fulford from the Department of Archaeology found working with the press office to be a positive experience: "I've found the press team enormously helpful in publicising our archaeological excavation at Silchester. Through their efforts and support there have been frequent reports in the national and local media - TV, radio and newspaper coverage."
