Johnny Wilkinson's Toulon to train at the University

Wednesday, 08 December 2010

Rugby

'We are very much looking forward to welcoming Toulon Rugby Club to the University.' Iain Akhurst, Director of Sport and Recreation

Jaws and kicks will be dropped on the Whiteknights Campus this Saturday 11 December when England rugby hero Johnny Wilkinson warms-up for Sunday's big match at the Madejski Stadium.

Wilkinson and his French side Toulon will be displaying their skills on the University's rugby pitches between 2.30pm to 4.00pm, in preparation for their Heineken Cup third round clash against London Irish.

Iain Akhurst, the University's Director of Sport and Recreation said: "We are very much looking forward to welcoming Toulon Rugby Club to the University. Sunday's fixture is a big match for both teams and although London Irish are our local team, Toulon can expect a warm reception from the SportsPark. Johnny Wilkinson is an icon of the game and instrumental in England's 2003 World Cup win so we are looking forward to a special afternoon."

Staff and students are welcome to watch the training session which takes place on the Whiteknights Campus' sports pitches between 2.30pm to 4.00pm on Saturday 11 December. Those that do are gently reminded that it is a serious training session ahead of the game on Sunday so it is essential that any spectators do not interrupt proceedings.
